You already know you have to severely suspend disbelief to enjoy Alison's robot books, and not to expect profundity from them. But in a way this one is deeper than it first seems. You could interpret it as political satire, but if you try to specify the analog you will see it fails. Alison satirizes both sides, in a way. But most interesting, he lays out a theory of evolution of AI, without using the word. This explains retroactively some events of previous novels in the series. It seems the independence of this model robot was not entirely planned by the manufacturer. I cannot say more without giving too much away, but it is a pretty solid theory, in my opinion as someone who has worked in the AI field.Product details

I had read the book His Robot Girlfriend quite a while back, when I bought this one I didn't even realize the connection until I was deep into the book. This series basically describes what life could be like with a robot companion. A lonely, 50'ish guy buys a female robot companion on a whim and learns to live again. I enjoyed this and the previous book in the series so much that I searched for and found the first book in the series. My only hope now is that he will add more to the series, they are just a good comfortable read, with just enough plot twists to move the story along.

We need to get some of Patient's viewpoint. Love is never one sided and it would've been nice to hear what she was feeling. I think it would have enhanced what is a cute story.
A good, relatable story. Not an overly-complex story with a dozen main characters. I enjoyed reading it so much that I found it hard to put it down!
I had really enjoyed reading the first book and was excited to read this one. Although it was good I was kind of surprised it ended so abruptly. Just when things were getting good the book ended. Womp womp. Hope there's a third one with more thought put into it;)
I was reluctant at first because I thought it was 'robot porn', but I was pleased to find that it was not. Okay, there is some sex, but very mild and more or less natural.....if sex with a robot can be considered 'natural'.
All in all, I enjoyed the story.
A fun fantasy. A return to the climate changed, robot-filled near future California of previous titles. The domestic sex robots are (of course) dangerously strong, as is assumed for the genre. The author's slice of life style shines in this piece, as the plucky housewife bot takes on a protege and goes on a cruise to temperate Antarctica. The nearness of this future and the domestic approach taken by the author seems to make the fantasy of perfect robot companions more tangible. Yet not every robot is perfect; their flaws take a surprisingly human turn.
